Questions
How is the price calculated?
By the number of words in your original document, counted as standard translation software (Trados) counts them, figures included, at the rate for its subject. Repeated sentences, and sentences already translated in any previous translations you upload (last year’s version with its English translation, a bilingual file or a TMX), cost less: as in a Trados analysis, each match band has its own share of the rate, from unchanged text in the same context to text that has partly changed. Your quote shows every band. VAT is added at checkout where it applies.
Why is the quote for my PDF an estimate?
PDFs don’t always contain clean text, and scanned pages have to be read with text recognition. I check every PDF before I start. If the real word count is more than 15% higher, I’ll contact you before starting, and you can cancel with a full refund. If you have the Word or InDesign file, upload that instead.
Do you do sworn translations?
No. If you need a sworn translation for an official procedure, you’ll need a sworn translator (traductor jurado / traducteur assermenté).
British or American English?
You choose when you order. If you don’t mind which, I’ll use British English.
Is my document kept confidential?
Yes. The quote for the document you want translated is worked out in your browser, so it isn’t uploaded until you book. If you add last year’s documents to lower the price, their text is sent securely to my server in the EU to be aligned, and deleted as soon as that’s done; bilingual files and TMX stay on your computer: if you book, only the translation units that match your files are sent, and I keep them as your translation memory with me for your next quotes (you can delete it from your account). To suggest published translations you can follow, only numeric fingerprints of your sentences are sent, never the text. Files are stored on a secure server, are never shared, and are deleted 90 days after delivery. I’m happy to sign your confidentiality agreement.
What happens to the translation memory I send?
I only keep what your job needs. Bilingual files and TMX are read in your browser: if you book, only the translation units that match the files you want translated are sent, and the rest never leaves your computer. Those units become your translation memory with me, and when I deliver, I add my final translation to it. The next time you ask for a quote, signed in with the same email address, it’s used straight away, so the price already reflects everything we’ve translated together. You can see it and delete it in your account.
Do you use AI?
Yes, as tools: machine translation for a first draft and an automated quality check, both through business services that don’t use your text for training. Every sentence is then revised by me. If your document can’t be processed by AI tools, tick the box when you order and I’ll translate it without them.
How can I pay?
By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe, a secure payment provider. Your card details never reach this website. For orders over €300 you can pay half now and half on delivery. Companies can also pay by bank transfer.
Will I get an invoice?
Yes, for every order, in your company’s name if you give its details at checkout. Businesses in other EU countries with a VAT number aren’t charged Spanish VAT (reverse charge). Spanish businesses withhold IRPF as usual.
Can you translate into Spanish, French or Catalan?
No. I only translate into English, my native language. That’s what I can guarantee. For other languages, write to me and I’ll recommend colleagues I trust.
What if I need corrections?
If something in the translation needs correcting, tell me within 30 days and I’ll fix it free of charge. Changes to the original text after you order are quoted separately.
Which file types can I upload?
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign (IDML and InCopy), OpenDocument, PDF, scans and photos (JPG, PNG), XLIFF and CAT tool files (SDLXLIFF, MQXLIFF), DITA topics and maps (or the whole publication in a ZIP), subtitles (SRT, VTT, ASS, TTML), web pages (HTML, and MHTML saved from a browser), emails (EML), e-books (EPUB), SVG graphics, software strings (JSON, PO, YAML, .properties, .strings, .resx), RTF, TXT, Markdown and CSV. Old .ppt and .xls files need saving in the newer format first.
Can you proofread a translation I already have?
Yes. Upload the original together with its English translation, or a bilingual file that’s already translated (XLIFF, SDLXLIFF, MQXLIFF…), in the same place as a document to translate. The quote tool recognises it and prices it as proofreading; any segments still without a translation are priced as translation. If you need a new translation after all, you can switch it back with one click.
How are delivery dates worked out?
From the length of your document, counting working days in Catalonia. Orders placed after 3 pm (Spanish time) start the next working day. Translations are delivered by 6 pm on the date shown. For larger jobs an express option appears when it would be faster.
Can I reserve your time before the document is ready?
Yes. In the quote tool, choose “I have a draft” or “No file yet, just a word count”, choose the date you expect the final file, and pay a deposit (a percentage of the estimated price, shown before you pay). It comes off the final price when you upload the final file, and it’s kept as a cancellation fee if you cancel. If you reserve as an individual, you can cancel within 14 days and get the deposit back in full.
