Native English translations, priced on the spot.

I’m Sam Kirk, a British translator based in Barcelona. I translate financial, legal and corporate texts from Spanish, Catalan and French into English. Drop your document below to see the price and delivery date straight away.

Your document never leaves your computer. It’s read here, in your browser, to work out the price, and it isn’t sent anywhere. It’s only uploaded, encrypted, if you book.

How it works

  1. Upload your document

The price and delivery date appear straight away. PDFs and scans are read automatically, and I confirm the word count before I start.

  2. Book and pay

Sign in with a code sent to your email, no password needed. Pay by card, or pay half now and half on delivery for larger jobs. Companies can also pay by bank transfer.

  3. Download your translation

You get an email when it’s ready. Sign in to download it, paying any remaining balance first.

Translated, or written in English?

Financial texts have their own English. A literal translation gets the words across, but not the terms an English-speaking reader expects. These are the kinds of term that give a translation away.

OriginalLiteral translationWhat an English reader expects
Cuenta de pérdidas y ganancias consolidadaesConsolidated losses and gains accountConsolidated income statement
Resultado atribuido a la sociedad dominanteesResult attributed to the dominant companyProfit attributable to owners of the parent
Patrimoni netcaNet patrimonyEquity
Memòria dels comptes anualscaMemory of the annual accountsNotes to the financial statements
Chiffre d’affairesfrBusiness figureRevenue

IFRS terminology, as used in the annual reports of listed companies.

Continuity from one report to the next

Annual reports, quarterly results and sustainability reports come back every year. Upload last year’s files with their English translations, as many as you like: separate documents are paired up and aligned sentence by sentence automatically, and bilingual files or TMX go straight into your project’s translation memory. I also build a glossary from them, so your terminology stays exactly the same. Each sentence is charged according to how much of it is already translated, band by band as in a Trados analysis, and your quote shows how much you save.

Example: a 40,000-word annual report
New text12,000 wordsfull price
Partly changed4,000 words60–70% of the rate
Almost the same, or new figures10,000 words40% of the rate
Unchanged14,000 words25% of the rate

You pay for 22,100 words instead of 40,000.

How I work on every translation

  1. Terminology

I extract the key terms from your previous documents and check them before I start.

  2. First draft

A draft is produced with machine translation tools, guided by your glossary.

  3. Two reviews

An automated check for consistency, figures and omissions, then my full revision, sentence by sentence.

  4. Final read

I read the finished text as your English reader will, and rework anything that doesn’t sound natural.

Who will translate your document

I’m British and English is my mother tongue. I studied French and Spanish at Coventry University, spent my Erasmus year in Oviedo and now live in Barcelona.

I spent seven years inside translation companies as a translator, proofreader and project manager, and was project lead for annual reports for BBVA, Bankinter and CaixaBank. Since 2018 I’ve worked for myself.

When you order through this site, I’m the one who translates your text. It isn’t passed on to anyone else.

Common questions

How is the price calculated?

By the number of words in your original document, counted as standard translation software (Trados) counts them, figures included, at the rate for its subject. Repeated sentences, and sentences already translated in any previous translations you upload (last year’s version with its English translation, a bilingual file or a TMX), cost less: as in a Trados analysis, each match band has its own share of the rate, from unchanged text in the same context to text that has partly changed. Your quote shows every band. VAT is added at checkout where it applies.

Why is the quote for my PDF an estimate?

PDFs don’t always contain clean text, and scanned pages have to be read with text recognition. I check every PDF before I start. If the real word count is more than 15% higher, I’ll contact you before starting, and you can cancel with a full refund. If you have the Word or InDesign file, upload that instead.

Do you do sworn translations?

No. If you need a sworn translation for an official procedure, you’ll need a sworn translator (traductor jurado / traducteur assermenté).

Is my document kept confidential?

Yes. The quote for the document you want translated is worked out in your browser, so it isn’t uploaded until you book. If you add last year’s documents to lower the price, their text is sent securely to my server in the EU to be aligned, and deleted as soon as that’s done; bilingual files and TMX stay on your computer: if you book, only the translation units that match your files are sent, and I keep them as your translation memory with me for your next quotes (you can delete it from your account). To suggest published translations you can follow, only numeric fingerprints of your sentences are sent, never the text. Files are stored on a secure server, are never shared, and are deleted 90 days after delivery. I’m happy to sign your confidentiality agreement.
